Markets Now: The Dow Gains 34 Points as U.S. Ignores Asia Selling

6:28 a.m. Don’t look to the futures market for a clue to how the market responds to yesterday’s tech wreck. S&P 500 futures are little changed, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures have risen 34 points, or 0.1%, and Nasdaq Composite futures have ticked up 0.1%.

A comment period on the Trump Administration’s proposed tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods ends at midnight, though it’s unclear if the penalties go into effect immediately. China said it will retaliate. And don’t forget the pressure in emerging markets, which continue to slide. How long can the U.S. remain immune?
